Recent and Ongoing Projects

AVEL

The "Improving the Accuracy of Academic Vocabulary Assessment for English Language Learners" project (David Francis, PI) is and IES funded measurement study that aims to refine an existing academic vocabulary assessment to improve the accuracy of vocabulary knowledge assessment among English learners.

Bedre Rustet

In the research project "Better Equipped", our team, lead by Åste Hagen, will follow the language development of children from around 2 to 5 years old. The goal is to develop a tool that preschool teachers can use to obtain important information about children's language development. The tool will be able to help preschool teachers identify children who may need extra follow-up and language support.

Lexical Characteristics

In this project we are exploring the relationship between word features and language skill development by analyzing the lexical characteristics of words encountered at different developmental stages. We fit exploratory factor models using 22 non-behavioral, empirical measures to three sets of vocabulary words representing vocabulary learned across different language skill levels.
